The Ron Kotarski, Jr. Memorial Community Playground A Community Triumph!
The 15,000 square foot playground was built in five days by hundreds of volunteers including members of the FCBA. The FCBA was responsible for supplying, organizing, and the checking in and out of all the tools needed to build the playground. The FCBA also
supplied a truck trailer to store and inventory the tools in for the
five day project. This was a tremendous feat unto itself.
Everyday our volunteers were the first to arrive, and the last to
leave. The playground was completed on schedule and opened on
Mother's Day. The playground was built in Dolores and is a
wonderful community asset not only to Dolores, but to all of the
surrounding areas. The idea was originated by Gina Kotarski
and with design and organizational help from Leathers and Associates, has become a sensational reality.
This project proves that a community that works together today, can
build a brighter future for tomorrow.

The Cortez Cultural Center receives a much needed upgrade!
The Cultural Center's Mission is to provide a forum for the community's
educational, cultural, artistic, and scientific interests.
They are the catalyst for cultural respect, continuity and
innovation. The Center hosts arts, cultural heritage, scientific lectures and performances throughout the year. The outdoor amphitheater provides an intriguing and pleasant forum for the summer Indian Dances and outdoor dramas. The historic building was built in the beginning of the 20th Century. The Fire Marshall notified them that due to the age and condition of the exterior staircase, it would have to be replaced. The Cultural Center had a need and the Four Corners Builders Association along with the Building Class from the San Juan Vo Tech School gave them some much needed help by building a new and safer staircase. Four Corners Builders Association Members who helped were: Montezuma Builders - Ed Dunn (in picture) and his employee Alex Thorkelson, Aragorn Enterprises, LLC - Walt Stramel, Custom Carpentry and Construction - John Stramel and his employees Jerry Tavra and Chris Todacheeny, and Candelaria Construction - Jim Candelaria. Students from the San Juan Vo Tech School were: Evelyn Simmons, Fred Bancroft, Chris Curry, and Raylon Hodgins. Great Job to Everyone! |
